Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using Hopshell ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

What the app does

Hopshell is a client application that connects to servers you already control, using credentials you provide, by driving your Mac's real ssh, scp, sftp, and mosh binaries. It stores credentials in the macOS Keychain, and optionally lets you sync data via your own iCloud account or share individual secrets with a teammate via Apple's CloudKit sharing.

Trademarks & no affiliation

Hopshell is an independent application, developed and sold by Code There. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way officially connected with Apple Inc., Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, DeepSeek, or any other company or product it can optionally integrate with. Any reference to these names describes integration compatibility only, in accordance with nominative fair use.

Your responsibility

• You are solely responsible for the servers you connect to, the credentials you use, and the consequences of any command, script, or broadcast you run through the app — including on remote infrastructure you don't personally own. Review commands before sending them, especially Broadcast (which sends one command to multiple servers at once) and anything run automatically on connect.
• Enabling SSH agent forwarding grants any host you connect to, for the duration of that session, the ability to ask your local ssh-agent to sign with your keys. Only enable it for hosts you trust.
• Team Sharing's "unlock code" is shown to you once and is never stored by Hopshell or transmitted through iCloud. If it's lost, that share can never be decrypted again by anyone, including you — this is by design, not a bug, and Code There cannot recover it for you.
• You are responsible for keeping your license key and your Mac's own user account secure, and for complying with your own organization's or provider's policies when connecting to their infrastructure through the app.

License

Purchasing Hopshell grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on devices you own. Licenses purchased through Gumroad are tied to a license key with a limited number of device activations. A 7-day free trial is available before purchase; trial and license enforcement run locally on your Mac and do not involve any account of ours.

Intellectual property

The Hopshell name, logo, and software are the property of Code There. This license grants you the right to use the app as described above — it does not transfer any ownership, and you may not redistribute, resell, reverse-engineer for the purpose of building a competing product, or remove any copyright notices from the app.

If you believe content on this site or in the app infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with a description of the work, its location, and your contact information, and we will investigate and respond promptly.

No warranty

The app is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, and we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from actions taken through the app on your own infrastructure, including misconfigured servers, unintended broadcast commands, or lost credentials.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Code There's total liability for any claim arising from your use of Hopshell is limited to the amount you paid for your license.

Termination

We may terminate or suspend a license for violation of these terms. You may stop using the app and uninstall it at any time.

Changes to the app or these terms

We may update the app and these terms over time. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
